The Giving Tree

I know what you're thinking. You're thinking about that book by Shel Silverstein. It's true that's a good book, but this "giving tree" is way better. It's a gift from my most wonderful sister and friend.

Here's how it works—whenever your spirit is droopy, pick one of the leaves and read the gift of words on it. It will brighten your day and possibly make you cry (happy tears).

Here's my beautiful tree on my favorite shelf.

You can't see from the picture what's written on the leaves. Here are a couple of examples from my tree —"I love you more than Ben & Jerry's" – "Motherhood suits you" – "You were born to sing."

My tree makes me smile. Thanks, seester!

And lookout my blogging friends. You just might be getting your own giving tree.

  11. What a beautiful idea!

Once, a friend told me to keep an "inspiration" drawer/file/whatever. She said to put all the little things you get, love notes, cards from friends or thank you notes people have given you where they've told you something sweet and wonderful about yourself, awards ... whatever.

Then, when you're down, you can open up your drawer (mine's a hanging file) and go through some of the things ~ instant pick-me-up.

But love notes from a sister, like that ~ well, that's extra special. There's something wonderful about the words of a sister.

  13. Hello, Shari! That's a wonderful idea! A great way for FHE topics, too!! Or a way to get the kids to stop fighting by standing in front of the giving tree, reading the good thoughts to each other. I love it! :)
